Life Beyond the Horizon: Exploring Midlife in Colombia
After years of working in the corporate world in the US, I decided to leave it all behind and embark on a journey to explore midlife through new experiences in other countries. Having heard so much about Colombia, I decided to make it my first stop. I was enticed by the country’s diverse landscape, rich history, and vibrant culture. I wanted to immerse myself in this new environment and see what adventures awaited me.
As I began my journey, I realized that Colombia had so much more to offer than what meets the eye. It was a paradise of hidden gems, just waiting to be discovered.
The Beauty of Stress-Free Living
One of the things that struck me about Colombia was the laid-back lifestyle. The people seem to have a slower pace of life and are more focused on enjoying the present moment. There was no rush to get things done, and everyone seemed content with taking things at their own pace.
This way of living was a stark contrast to what I was used to in the US. I had always been on the go, chasing after new opportunities and striving for success. But in Colombia, I learned that success doesn’t always have to mean a high-paying job or a flashy car. Success can also mean experiencing the simple pleasures of life, like good food, great company, and the beauty of nature.
Discovering Hidden Gems: My Colombian Journey
During my time in Colombia, I explored the countryside and the cities, meeting new people and discovering new places. I visited the colorful town of Guatapé, known for its vibrant houses and intricate tilework. I hiked to the top of the famous El Peñol rock and was rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
I also visited the city of Medellín, known for its rich history and thriving cultural scene. I wandered through the Botero Plaza, admiring the sculptures of famed artist Fernando Botero. I sampled local cuisine, including the famous bandeja paisa, a hearty dish made up of rice, beans, meat, and plantains.
But it was the people of Colombia who left the biggest impression on me. They were warm, welcoming, and always ready to share their culture with a curious traveler. I learned so much from them, and each encounter was a reminder of the beauty of human connection.
Final Thoughts: Embracing Change and Living Stress-Free
My journey to Colombia was a reminder that sometimes, the best way to find yourself is to step outside of your comfort zone. By leaving behind the familiar and embracing the unknown, I was able to discover new experiences, learn from different cultures, and find a new way of living that was more aligned with my values.
Stress-free living isn’t about escaping your problems, but rather about embracing change and finding joy in the present moment. It’s about learning to let go of the things that don’t matter and focusing on what truly brings you happiness.
As I continue to explore new countries and cultures, I will carry these lessons with me, knowing that there is always more to discover beyond the horizon.
